BOB ASKEY was born and raised in Salem, Ohio. He exhibited an interest and ability in art at a very early age and on through his secondary education. It was assumed that art was the career path he would follow. However, after obtaining a degree in art from Bowling Green University, Bob followed a different course and never worked in the field of art. It was not until he retired that he once again became involved with art.
After college and military service Bob took a job with Young & Rubicam Advertising in New York City. Of the options available to him at the world's largest advertising agency he chose to work as an account executive in Account Management rather than as a Designer or Art Director. Bob was with Y & R for thirteen years in New York City and Frankfurt, Germany before marrying his wife Alice and moving to Keene, NH.
After failing to find work in his profession in Keene, Bob started his own advertising agency, Askey Associates, Inc. Over the next twelve years the agency grew to employ eighteen people and at one point became the largest agency in New Hampshire. Askey Associates had many Boston based advertising accounts as well as a variety of clients throughout New England.
When Bob retired he took a number of art courses at Keene State College to familiarize himself with materials and procedures in the various mediums such as Oil and Watercolor painting and Print Making. Before long he was producing work in all the media and enjoying the results.
Bob is aware that an artist usually chooses to specialize in one form of art. However, having waited so long to involve himself with the pastime he enjoys immersing himself in the variety of opportunities the field offers. He is no more hesitant to sit at his desk and create a watercolor cartoon than he is to develop thumbnail sketches for a large Oil painting. As a result, Bob creates both whimsical and serious art in a variety of styles and media.
In the past few years, Bob has won many awards in competitive art exhibitions throughout New England ranging from "Best in Show" at Ogunquit, ME Sidewalk Art Exhibit to blue ribbon awards in three different media in various other competitive exhibitions. His work is owned by patrons in over two dozen states. Bob is involved with a number of organizations where his work is exhibited on a regular basis.
